Between the Covers

In Toronto recently Harlequin Enterprises inspected around 200 ordinary men with a view to putting them on romance covers. Sounds like a fun day at the office!

"We're looking for some guys that are not your usual models, but have that iconic look that women go for -- sexy, sensitive, beautiful and fit," stated Harlequin spokesperson Marleah Stout. "We want real men ... exactly what you think in your mind when you're fantasizing or imagining that ideal man."

"Some of the heroes are captains of industry, billionaires," added
Deborah Peterson, a Harlequin creative designer. "A lot of the models were too young, men in their twenties. And our audience likes men a little bit older, a bit
bigger, than the runway models."

Okay, real men, older…hmm. So does that mean that the Billionaires will be represented by Donald Trump in real in-the-flesh life? Not that far fetched as he's appeared on RAW even making it onto the Wrestle Mania stage. What's to stop him appearing on a Desire cover?

And what about the gorgeous Greek Tycoons? Are they going to look more like Ari Onassis?

Personally I'd prefer the young Stavros Niarchos…

For a taste of the auditions find Stephen Colbert's audition video here.

Personally if I must a have REAL everyday man with a bit of muscle, can't he look a little like the All Black Dan Carter? Check here - it may take a while to load, but it's worth the wait!

But right now I'm perfectly happy with the cover guy on my June release, RICH MAN'S REVENGE. A little young? Maybe. But definitely cute, a little arrogant…and certainly alpha enough to satisfy my reader tastes. What do you think?

PS Don't miss my CELEBRATION PARTY on this blog starting Sunday afternoon EST.

Firstly - thanks for this oppertunity to have my 5c worth:

I think that the normal man on the cover makes the book more real to the average Joanne Blog standing in the shop trying to decide what book to buy, and it gives a more grounded feel to the story before you even open the book - you are suspending your disbelief because the cover is so not over the top!

Bye 4 now
