Romance Writers of Australia recently announced the finalists for the Romantic Book of the Year Award. (list posted below)

It's wonderful to see so many debut authors on the list--including Karina Bliss and Yvonne Lindsay who recently helped me party!! Of course, the fabulous historical writer, Helen Kirkman, partied too...

Have you discovered any exciting debut authors in 2007? And what makes you decide to read a book by a debut author? A random winner will be picked from the comments section and will win a copy of RICH MAN'S REVENGE, my Silhouette Desire due out in June.

Here are the R*BY Finalists:

Short Romance

Marion Lennox The Doctor's Proposal
Marion Lennox Rescue at Cradle Lake
Yvonne Lindsay The Boss's Christmas Seduction
Fiona Lowe Her Miracle Baby
Carol Marinelli Needed: Full Time Father
Anne Oliver Behind Closed Doors

Long Romance

Karina Bliss Mr Imperfect
Fran Cusworth The Love Child
Anna Jacobs Bright Day Dawning
Anna Jacobs The Corrigan Legacy
Helen Kirkman A Fragile Trust
Margaret Way The Horseman

Congratulations to all!

I recently found a new author after recieving an email from eHarlequin. I knew after reading the blurb I had to have her first book. When I found out she was coming out with an other book I have been eagerly awaiting it to hit my local book store (they'll call me when it comes in...*G*).

I guess I should mention her name...Tessa Radley...I hope she has many many more books coming out really soon.

Oh I forgot to mention how much I loved Black Widow Bride. You have become an auto-buy-author for me. I love your voice and style and hope you have lots of projects waiting in the wings.

Kelly, you're making me blush!! *g*
Thanks for putting me on your auto-buy list. That's an honor!

If you want a giggle, I was reading your post with a lot of interest...I LOVE discovering a brand new author. And I couldn't wait to read the author's name! LOL!

Stacy S - thank you so much too. I'm looking forward to Tawny's book too. We finalled in the Golden Heart together, now our books are out together. Ties that bind.

Crystal, I'm interested that you find new authors on blogs...and that you search out the publisher websites. In the pre-internet days it was harder. Do you remember those days?? Scouring the bookshops for newbies? And sometimes it took YEARS to find out that a favorite author had a whole string of books out under another name. That happens less now.

Lois, I sometimes feel a little overwhelmed. So many books, so little time!

Tetewa, I can't wait to read Treasure. Years ago there used to be heaps of treasure hunter romances--I loved them. Intimate Moments did several. Then they disappeared. I think we have the Da Vinci Code to thank for the resurgence of popularity in treasure hunter stories. Although, I think that Evelyn Vaughn's fabulous AKA Godess would've started a trend anyway.

great list of nominees(mind you I've only read two of them)
I discovered a whole slew of talented new authors: Abby Gaines, Abby Green, Tessa Radley, Maxine Sullivan, Barbara White Daille(ok that was last year), Melissa James, Yvonne Lindsey(ok again last year but late last year)and Annie West. I look forward to reading more from all the authors (and some I have read twice ore three times and was not disappointed). And Kelly you'll love Rich Man's Revenge.

I too find new authors from blogs, discussion forums and from the link pages of authors. Not to mention that I have recently got new e-mail friends who are just as addicted to books as I am by visiting regularly on one author's discussion forums and after singning a guest book of another.

Hi Tessa,
That's an interesting topic. If I'm at a book store I'm always with the back cover not the front. If I find something interesting I'd go for it even if it was my first time ever to hear about its writer.. but as you've mentioned, now with the internet it's through blogs that I get to know new writers though I'll have to admit when through the internet it's the front cover that most of the time catch my attention and make me go to the blurb. And I'll have to say your front covers are just great:)

A couple of my favorite debut writers this year are Stephanie Tyler and Michelle W (I'm so spacing on her last name, but she writes for harlequin historical) I was lucky enough to win a copy of Stephanie's Risking It All and I loved the excerpt of Michelle's on ehq, so I ended up buying it last month when I found a copy :)

Great question. Two of the newest authors I've read, and whose books I've thoroughly enjoyed are your own (really!) and Yvonne Lindsay's. I'm hoping there may be a few more as I read through my TBR pile.

I'm looking forward to reading future books from you NZ authors.

Christa, so glad you've enjoyed the books of mine that you've read! That was lovely to hear.

I love finding new authors. I always try to watch HQ's website and also through blogs. I read a lot of review sites so I get new authors.
